Round Robin Information
So you want to do a round robin ... and you love Shepherd's Bush .... well, here is some basic information about round robins. After reading this, if you would like to join one, please fill out the form by following the link at the bottom of the page!
First, a round robin is a project that begins with you and is sent on to several other stitchers who also stitch on your project. When it is returned to you, you have a wonderful one-of-a-kind sampler. Plus you get to know a lot of other ladies during this time.
MATERIAL
Any type and/or color of evenweave type fabrics such as linen, jobelan, etc. will work wonderfully. There are some wonderful colors out there. So you can be creative!! Thread counts of 28 to 32 work best, but in the interest of all those who don't have a Dazor lamp, please don't use a larger thread count than that. (36 and above are way too hard on the eyes for most of us without a Dazor). There will be anywhere from 6 to 12 stitchers working in the robin. I would like to keep them between 6 to 8 so you can get your project back faster.
In order to figure out how much material you will need, you will want to allocate a space for each stitch, say 2-3" for each stitcher. Decide how wide you would like your sampler, 3-6". Be sure and allow at least 3" on each side for finishing. If you desire, you can do a band of your own at the top AND at the bottom when it is returned to you. That is up to you. So your piece of linen would be determined by multiplying our allocated space by the number of stitchers in the round robin.
PERSONAL INSTRUCTIONS
You will choose a theme for project. Of course, the basis theme is Shepherd's Bush, but you can narrow it down from there if you would like: sheepies, hearts, elegant, Christmas, just one particular color, each band a different month or season, the ideas are endless. I have yet to see a RR that isn't gorgeous!! And they are all different! You can also just choose one the SB kits or charts, buy all the supplies (if it's a chart), mark off the chart into sections for the stitchers and send that along. You stitch the first section and everyone else completes the kit for you. If you're like me, you have lots of kits and doing this will enable you to get more actual SB projects completed!! So you don't have to do a "theme" RR. This works great too!
You can be as specific as you would like in your instructions. If you don't like verses, say so, if you don't want cut work, say so, if you DO want these things, just put it in your info!
Normally, we use all DMC floss, as that is something that we all have in our stash. So if you want a specialty thread used or beads used, you will need to provide these.
SIGNING YOUR WORK
It will be up to the individual owner to decide how she wants everyone to sign their work. This will be outlined in her "personal instruction sheet" which will be included in her mailing package. Some examples would be initials and date, full name and date, full name or initials, state and date. It's all up to you what you want.
MAILING
We try to put a time limit for the amount of time you have to stitch the RR. We all want our projects back home!! Usually a week or 2 stitching time is all you will have before mailing it out again. To keep your sampler safe from dirt and water damage, enclose it in a zip lock bag of project pack which is labeled with your name and address. The post office has a FREE cardboard mailer that will hold the project perfectly. I highly recommend the use of these mailers. Plus it's only $3.00 for mailing (I don't
know how much international is).
COMMUNICATION
That is the KEY to a successful round robin!!! I am sure many of you have heard horror stories of RR's that never returned home. To make this a succdessful RR, always communicate with the person you receive from, the owner of the sampler you receive, the person you send to and myself. This way everyone will know where the samplers are. I will also provide a web page with the status of your RR so you can check it any time you would like. Remember, life can sometimes interfere with the best of plans and if something comes up and you'll be late mailing, please let us know. Being late is ok but WHAT ISN'T OK is to do nothing and cause everyone to worry about what you are doing!!! So PLEASE let us know as soon as one arrives at your home!! Also, let the person you are sending to know as soon as you mail one so she can be on the lookout for it. The bottom line is KEEP IN TOUCH!! It's essential to keeping our RR on track and on time!!
I hope I've explained the Round Robin process well enough and have answered most of your questions. I've tried to be as specific as possible without pushing too many rules and regulations at you. But some rules are necessary to keep everything running smoothly. When your samplers return home, please take a picture of it and send it to me so that I can put them on my round robin page on the Internet. It will be such fun to see all the completed samplers!!! For those who decide to do a RR, you will receive a more detailed letter from me at a later date which will include the names and addresses of the participants.
So, if you have decided to do this Shepherd's Bush RR, stay tuned to the SB BB. There are RR's starting all the time. Why not join us??
